Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: Public Schools - Points
Abstract:
Public Schools - under the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Unified School District. This is a spatial view of the City Facilities layer. Each point represents an active facility according the Real Estate Information System (REIS), formerly ICPD). The primary key, [FACILITY_I], is the link back to the REIS table CITYFACILS. The REIS serves as the foundation for information regarding City Property, from which is produced, among other things, the Real Estate Property Book.
  1. How should this data set be cited?

Why was the data set created?

This data layer was originally developed in order to provide a location for each of the facilities in the Capital Asset Management/Facility Condition Monitoring (CAMS/FCM) program.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    (process 1 of 3)
Initially (mid-1990s) working from a comma-delimited text file outputed by the CAMS/FCM system, Jeff Johnson geocoded the addresses of the facilities found in the text file. Over the course of several months, he heads-up digitized, adding facilities that were missing or had not been geocoded, and moving those points incorrectly placed to their correct position, using the basemap layers and photos as a guide.

    (process 2 of 3)
When Real Estate leases, acquires or sells facilities, the relevant documentation is sent to DTIS. DTIS updates the SFFACS spatial layer to correspond to the CityFacils table in REIS.
