2018 Building Automation Systems Workshop VII: Networking and Programming for Smart/Efficient Buildings

BEST Center partnered with Metropolitan Community College to host the seventh Building Automation Systems (BAS) Workshop for 30 community and technical college educators from across the country. The workshop focused on networking and programming skills required by building technicians to be successful in future roles.


2018 Annual Institute: Buildings as Information Systems

On January 3-6, 2018, BEST Center hosted community and technical college educators at its Annual Institute. The theme, “Buildings as Information Systems”, intends to draw a clear, direct line from managing high-performance buildings to enhancing energy conservation and occupant health.


2017 Building Automation Systems Workshop VI: BAS Program High-Level Outcomes

BEST Center was excited to host our 6th Building Automation Systems (BAS) Workshop back at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Attendees tied together program outcomes with frameworks for defining skills for job requirements, systems thinking and lab exercises. 


2017 Institute: Learning by Doing in Building Technician Education – New Technologies, Teaching Strategies, and Lab Applications

January 11 – 14, 2017 | Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco, CA

This year 37 faculty members from 27 community and technical colleges gathered to focus on strategies and exercises that can be brought to the classroom. Industry experts and leading scientists were on hand to tie in the latest research with real-world applications.


2016 Building Automation Systems Workshop V: Lab Setup and Exercises

June 8 – 11, 2016 | Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Clarkston, GA

BAS Workshop V convened 27 faculty and program administrators from 23 technical and community colleges from around the U.S. for a four-day workshop about instructional laboratory development and best practices.


2016 Annual Institute: High-Performance Building Technician Education – Technologies, Trends, and Knowledge and Skills of Technicians

January 6 – 9, 2016 | Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL), UC Davis, and Laney College in Oakland, CA

BEST Center hosted community and technical college faculty from 16 states to hear about the latest research, technology, and tools from leading scientists, to tour a Zero Net Energy Community and labs, and to synthesize everything into the curriculum for tomorrow’s high-performance building technicians.
