About the Speakers:

 

Peter Crabtree, Principal Investigator, BEST Center; Dean of Career and Technical Education, Laney College

Dean Peter Crabtree has approximately 30 years of experience in community and workforce development.  He has been the CTE Dean at Laney College for the past ten years and worked for eleven years at the Peralta District Office leading local and regional career & technical education program development and contract education.  He served as Principal Investigator (PI) for Laney College’s prior NSF project grants and is the PI of the BEST Center.

 

Pamela Wallace, Director, BEST Center

As Director of BEST Center, Pam helps with strategic planning and industry partnerships. Prior to joining BEST, Pam worked as Business Development Manager for Siemens, then Honeywell where she was responsible for assisting community colleges in developing clean energy projects to reduce energy consumption and costs. She has an MBA from UCLA, BAs in Economics and French from UC Berkeley and served as a BEST Center Industry Advisor for seven years prior to joining the Center.

 

Brian Lovell, Co-Principal Investigator, Georgia Piedmont Technical College

Brian has spent his career in the building automation industry and started Synergy Automation in 1998.  Upon joining the faculty at GPTC in 2007, he helped to initiate two associate degree programs, one in Commercial Refrigeration and another in Building Automation Systems (BAS), one of the first of its kind in the U.S.  As Co-PI, he has led BEST’s BAS professional development workshops and assisted numerous community colleges nationwide in starting BAS courses and programs.

 

Ted Wilinski, Co-Principal Investigator, Milwaukee Area Technical College

Ted is a mechanical engineer and educator specializing in facilities and energy management. Besides having his own engineering and energy management practice, he teaches in the Building Operator Certification Program and MATC’s Sustainable Facilities Operations program. At MATC, he assists with campus-wide sustainability efforts and leads classes in energy auditing, LEED, and measurement and verification.

 

Larry Chang, Manager, BEST Center

Larry received his M. Arch. from Yale University, B.S.E. from Princeton, and is a registered architect who has worked across the U.S. on both commercial and residential projects. In 1999, he established SightWorks Architecture, his own practice committed to sustainability and accessibility. As an educator, he has taught at Univ. of Louisiana at Lafayette, Savannah College of Art & Design, and City College SF. Prior to becoming BEST’s manager,  he had served as Laney College’s Environmental Control Technology coordinator.

 

Bob Clark, HVACR Faculty, College of DuPage

Bob is Coordinator of the HVACR program, the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic program, and the Facility Management program. He holds A.S. degrees in Electrical Electronic Automation Systems, HVACR and Industrial Maintenance Technology; a B.S. double major in Business and Communications; an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Energy and Sustainable Studies. Bob managed his own HVACR/electrical business and worked as an industrial maintenance mechanic (packaging, facilities and electrical) in the chemical manufacturing industry. He also taught part-time at Joliet Junior College and discovered a love for teaching, which he now shares with his students at College of DuPage.

 

Charlotte Forrest, Co-Principal Investigator, Mentor-Connect

Charlotte is the Project Manager for the National Science Foundation (NSF), Advanced Technological Education (ATE) funded program-Mentor-Connect: Leadership Development and Outreach for ATE where she has served since April 2013. The program currently serves a growing number of over 200 faculty and administrators from 59 colleges in 24 states with emphasis on diversifying and impacting the Advanced Technological Education program at NSF. Charlotte lives and works in Florence, SC at Florence-Darlington Technical College in the South Carolina Advanced Technological Education (SC ATE) Center of Excellence. Charlotte obtained her Master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education and had 10 years of community college and university experience to bring to Mentor-Connect.
