From the Archive: Expanding the Data Analytics Technician Pipeline

Data analytics is a growing discipline in the area of information technology, enabling organizations to gain valuable insights from vast amounts of data and make data-driven decisions. The demand for skilled data analytics professionals continues to rise as a broad range of industries recognize the potential of harnessing data to improve their products, services, organizational practices, and more.

In this From the Archive blog post, we delve into the realm of data analytics and explore various resources that contribute to expanding the pipeline of data analytics technicians. Our first collection of resources look at data management and utilization, and how five companies in Ohio use data to improve their services. Next, we highlight a video about the key benefits of Splunk’s Academic Alliances partnership program. Finally, we offer up a summary of the Data Analytics - Analysis and Visualization AAS degree program at Columbus State Community College, which provides high school students with the opportunity to earn college credit while gaining practical experience in the field of information technology.

 

Expanding the Data Analytics Technician Pipeline in SW Ohio

With their project Expanding the Data Analytics Technician Pipeline from High School into College and High Demand Jobs in Southwest Ohio, Sinclair Community College aims to address the growing demand for data analytics technicians by “establishing pathways that generate interest in data analytics careers, support the transfer of data literate high school students into postsecondary programs, and prepare them to fill the growing demand for data analytics technicians.” In support of these efforts, this ATE project has created a number of resources, including this collection of documents that discuss many aspects of data management and utilization. The Data Age Is Here, Are You Ready?

In this video, Chris Visaya, Senior Manager of Education Delivery for Splunk, discusses both broad data science and data analytics workforce needs and specific benefits for colleges joining Splunk's Academic Alliance. The increasing importance of data in society, new technologies, Splunk's data-to-everything platform, Splunk's services and software, and Splunk's customers and users are also highlighted.

Data Analytics Degree Pathway at CSCC

This document, created by Strengthening Mobile Application Resources and Technician Training: The SMARTT Project, shows the high school to college pathway for the Computer Science, Data Analytics - Analysis and Visualization AAS degree available at Columbus State Community College. Information is provided for high school dual enrollment through College Credit Plus IT Explores Program and the transfer sequence to Kent State University.
