Module Description:

This learning module, from Support Center for Microsystems Education (SCME), introduces participants to the microcantilever. The module covers microcantilever "applications in micro and nanotechnologies, its use in sensor arrays, and how it works in both static and dynamic modes of operation." An overview of the various applications of microcantilevers is covered as well as a detailed look at chemical sensor arrays and atomic force microscopes. 

Module Contents:

This module includes ten instructor guides, nine participant guides, and three PowerPoint presentations. PDF and DOCs files are provided for each guide. The included instructor and participant guides include a pre and post-test, four primary knowledge informational units (PKs), and two activities. Instructor guides include additional content such as instructor notes as well as questions and answers. The module also includes a learning module map.

The learning module map provides information about the module including contents, STEM Standards and Benchmarks for Microcantilevers, and a map that is divided into the following sections: Important Steps, Key Points, and Reasons.

The Microcantilevers Knowledge Probe and Final Assessment are the included pre and post-tests. The Knowledge Probe is a pre-assessment used to determine a participant's knowledge of cantilevers and microcantilevers. The Final Assessment is used to determine a participant's knowledge after completing the learning modules. Each test includes 15 questions.

The four primary knowledge informational units include Microcantilevers, How Does a Cantilever Work, Chemical Sensor Arrays, and Atomic Force Microscope. 

The presentations cover the following topics: microcantilever applications, chemical sensor arrays, and how cantilevers work. The presentations include unit overviews, objectives, introductions, and summaries. 

For orientation purposes App_CantiL_LM_MAP_IG.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this module.
