  • Three new Business-Industry Leadership Team members were added since the grant proposal was submitted, one a cybersecurity expert.

Goal 1: Modify the Networking/IT curriculum.

  • A revised Networking degree was approved by Northark's Curriculum Committee.  The degree has a focus on security and was endorsed by Northark’s Business-Industry Leadership Team.
  • A new stackable Certificate of Proficiency (CP) degree pathway was developed that will seamlessly lead to a Technical Certificate (TC) and then to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. The courses in this stackable CP comprise the first semester of coursework in the Technical Certificate (TC), which comprises the first year of coursework for the AAS degree.

  • A new internship course has been created based on recommendations from the Business-Industry Leadership Team, and embedded in the IT/Cyber degree plans.

       ACTIVITIES:

Goal 2: Expand the Business-Industry Leadership Team.

Goal 3: Upskill Northark faculty who will teach the updated curriculum.

  • One instructor is studying for and preparing to take CISCO's A+ certification exam.  She will take the certification exam this summer and teach the course on site AND remotely to the Carroll County Center during fall 2018.
  • Another instructor will complete the Convergence Technology Center's Summer Working Connection's "Preparing to Teach the Internet of Things (IOT) Training this summer, and will apply the training to "Advanced Topics", a new class in the Networking program, in spring 2018.
  • Two instructors are completing Northark's Excellent Online Teacher training course in preparation for teaching Networking classes online during the 2018-19 academic year.

Goal 4: Expand delivery methods and locations.

  • 2 courses, "Microsoft Operating Systems" and "Advanced Operating Systems", are in the process of being developed for online delivery during the 2018-19 academic year.  MOS is on the fall schedule as an online course and already has 18 students enrolled.

  • One course, Network Fundamentals (CCNA1) is on the schedule to be offered using remote "face to face" delivery (described above) to the CCC in fall 2018.

  • PC Repair A+ will be offered in a blended format (described above).  The face to face portion of the class will be offered on the Harrison campus while also being "beamed" to students at the CCC using Zoom or a similar video conferencing solution.  A lab assistant at the CCC will provide additional support.
  • Software, hardware, and network resources for remote delivery between Harrison's campus and the CCC have been identified and are in the process of being purchased.

  • A mobile unit with networking equipment for deployment to the CCC has been ordered and will be used during fall 2018 classes.
  • We are exploring the option to partner with another Arkansas College to share resources for virtual labs in networking and cybersecurity.
