During this 5-page activity, from the Advanced Technology Environmental and Energy Center, students study the release of polluting materials into the environment and apply this knowledge in a community context. Students examine fluorescent lights by analyzing data on the amount of mercury released from broken fluorescent lights, calculating the volume of air used and needed in the classroom, and analyzing data to determine the degree of risk from broken fluorescent lights. This resource includes procedures for both the teacher and students as well as a student worksheet.
