This activity, provided by the Advanced Technology Environmental and Energy Center (ATEEC), takes students on two virtual field trips that focus on the effects of climate change on glaciers and permafrost. The field trips guide students using way points on Google Earth that include explanations, discussion questions, and links to resources, such as videos and articles. The two field trips can be separate activities and are "designed to give high school and introductory college students an understanding of the rapid changes occurring in arctic and subarctic ecosystems, even if they have never visited these areas." The 2-page teacher's guide includes a description of the activity, learning objectives, and additional questions to be explored.

Also included is a .kmz file, which contains the virtual tour. The .kmz file can be imported into Google Earth by clicking "File" on the top left, followed by "Import KML / KMZ file."
