RCNET ACAD 08-006 Crosswalk: 3.1 Radiological Protection Technicians - Systems

Program Description:
This material was published by the Regional Center for Nuclear Education and Training (RCNET) as part of a comprehensive crosswalk that links objectives of ACAD 08-006 with GP Strategies ABC Material, NUCP Surveyed Material, NANTeL resources, EPRI resources, web resources, and published material available to all RCNET partners. These accredited utility training programs are based off training and qualification guidelines (ACADs) published by the National Academy for Nuclear Training. 

ACAD 08-006 is the Uniform Curriculum Guide for Nuclear Power Plant Technician, Maintenance, and Nonlicensed Operations Personnel Associate Degree Programs and includes five main curriculum areas: Core Curriculum, Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Nonlicensed Operators, Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Radiological Protection Technicians, Discipline-Specific for Chemistry Technicians, and Discipline Specific for Maintenance Personnel. 
 
Contents
This Systems section of Discipline-Specific Curriculum for Radiological Protection Technicians (ACAD 08-006 3.1) focuses on "... explain[ing] the principles and describ[ing] the components associated with various systems. (These topics build on the general system and component knowledge that is part of the Basic Systems Knowledge curriculum and focus on the in-depth knowledge required for the radiological protection technician discipline.)"

Documents associated with ACAD 08-006 3.1 include eight documents of curriculum information, lesson plans, and instructor notes, and fifteen PowerPoint presentations.

This material covers, more specifically: the importance of the following systems to plant safety and radiological hazards and precautions associated with maintenance tasks for each: chemical and volume control (PWR), circulating water, condensate containment, containment spray, control rod drive mechanism, emergency core cooling systems, environmental monitoring, feedwater, main steam, off-gas (BWR), post-accident sampling, pressurizer (PWR), and more; drawing a basic system block diagram; identifying conditions that preclude sage work in the vicinity of system components; and identifying the basic interrelationships with other plant systems. 

For orientation purposes Primary_Systems.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this curriculum.
