Module Description:

This module, created by the Center for Nanotechnology Education (Nano-Link), introduces "the process of forming macrocapsules and the concept of self-assembly." During the module learning activity students study the process of encapsulation and controlled release with nanoparticles, dye, and organic compounds.

The learning outcomes for this module are:

• Understand the roles of nanoparticles and self-assembly in the process of microencapsulation
• Learn about the actual and theoretical applications of micro- and nanocapsules in medicine and other technology.

Module Contents:

This module includes an instructor guide and presentation slides.

The 9-page instructor guide includes an abstract, learning outcomes, prerequisites, learning activity description and procedure, discussion questions, and more. The presentation slides provide background information on encapsulation and controlled release, including the following topics: Encapsulation, Self-assembly, the Forces Behind Self-assembly, Micro- and Nano-Encapsulation, Applications of Micro- and Nanocapsules, and more. 

Versions in Spanish are also included for the module documents.
