Enlightened Education: Solar Engineering Design to Energize School Facilities Presentation
This presentation, published by the Center for Renewable Energy Advanced Technological Education Resource Center (CREATE), is one of the resources included in CREATE's Solar on Schools Toolkit. The video intends to "reach a larger number of faculty and schools with an interest in pursuing solar projects at their campuses" by examining the engineering considerations and lessons learned when designing Madison Area Technical College's rooftop solar panels. First, the project itself is presented with information on financial, educational, social, environmental, and energy-specific factors. Next, financial decisions are detailed in further depth. The video also highlights the project's employment of students for hands-on education, accessibility considerations for rooftop access, the use of the rooftop as an instructional space, roof surfaces and mounting options for solar panels, the performance of the solar panels financially and for energy production, and the effects of winter weather. A list of acknowledgments concludes the presentation. The video recording runs 15:23 minutes in length.
