Nature and Basic Properties of Light (Video 1 of 8)
This video, from the Laser and Fiber Optics Regional Center, is the first of eight lectures in the Introduction to Photonics Video Series for Technologists. This video discusses the nature and basic properties of light. An overview of frequency, wavelength, speed, refraction, and index of refractions is provided. During the lecture, viewers will learn how to:
- define the properties of length - wavelength, frequency, and period;
- describe the dual nature of light (wave and particle);
- describe the electromagnetic spectrum and sketch a diagram of its main optical regions;
- describe the properties of electromagnetic waves; and
- define index of refraction.
This video runs 25:46 minutes in length. The other videos from this series are available to view separately.
