This webinar will explore the way in which the structure and composition of large arteries near the heart change with age, thus making them stiffer and how this increase in stiffness leads to high blood pressure, the main cause of death in the developed world. It will discuss possible biomechanical reasons for blood pressure variability in populations and conclude with a brief description of a new treatment based on manipulating arterial mechanical properties. Webinar begins at 12:30 pm EDT. Webinars are live presentations, given by a technical leader, that you can take part in from your desk or conference room. All you need to participate is a phone and an Internet connection. After registration, you will receive an e-mail confirmation and instructions on how to join the meeting. SME webinars are typically hosted by one or more of our Technical Community Network (TCN) tech groups, technical events and/or professional development. Webinars help SME fulfill its mission, which is to acquire and distribute manufacturing knowledge among its members and the broader manufacturing community.
