Introduction to GIS 2 day workshop This workshop is designed for those with little or no experience in the geospatial field of study and would like to learn either the basics of ArcView. The workshop is designed both for those interesting in teaching a class in ArcGIS or wishing to use ArcGIS concepts within another course as a component part. This workshop will cover the concepts of joining of data, merging of shapefiles, symbology associated with shapefiles, downloading data from external sources, utilizing basemaps, setting zoom levels on when data turns on or off, labeling of map features, creating a map with legends, titles, directional arrows and scale, using a GPS and importing XY data. The participants will be given access to the software, all content covered in the workshop and additional concepts to continue the learning process which was begun in the workshop.
