Announcing the 2014 1-day Portland Summer Sustainability Institute (SSI) entitled "Supporting Sustainability, High Density and Livable Design," hosted by Portland Community College with generous support from the National Science Foundation. This year's SSI will:

  2. Investigate the options for balancing land use needs for housing with needs for agriculture, landscapes and greenscapes, and natural resources.
  3. Host a Design Charette in which participants will design and envision places that support "conscious living" — places where occupants are actively conscious of the impact they have on their environment and employ practices to mitigate their impact, and conserve and protect natural resources.
