This first workshop on this subject, and organized by the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals (KAMP) and sponsored by the National Geospatial Technology Center of Excellence and Precision Products, Inc. will help answer the following questions: What are “drones” (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles – UAVs or Unmanned Aerial Systems – UASs are the terms for professionals use; other names exist, such as Uninhabited Aerial Vehicles)? How are UAVs/UASs revolutionizing the geospatial professions? Is it legal to fly UAVs/UAs? And is it legal to collect data with them? What types of UAVs/UASs exist and what sensor payloads are the most popular for specific fields? Is there a permit needed for my agency or institution to fly UAVs/UASs? How do I process the resulting sensed data and use them in my GIS?
