Dr. Barthelemy was a Fulbright Scholar in Finland and a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan and Seattle Pacific University. He has conducted qualitative and quantitative research on the experiences of women, people of color, and LGBT persons in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. His work has included a nationwide set of interviews looking at career pathways and harassment of graduate women in physics and astronomy, as well as an international survey assessing the experiences of LGBT physicists. His work has identified the many barriers that underrepresented groups face in STEM, with an emphasis on peer-to-peer harassment. Dr. Barthelemy has taught classes in the United States and Finland on race and gender in science, intercultural education, and physics. He has taken a unique academic approach to teaching STEM students the humanities through an investigation of their own fields.
