Dr. Berg was named by the Board of Directors of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Science family of journals, beginning in July, 2016. Dr. Berg also serves as Associate Senior Vice Chancellor for Science Strategy and Planning in the Health Sciences, Professor of Computational and Systems Biology, and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Berg formerly served as Pittsburgh Foundation Professor and Director of the Institute for Personalized Medicine at Pitt and was formerly Director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is now the 20th editor-in-chief of Science since the journal’s inception in 1880.
A recipient of the American Chemical Society’s Award in Pure Chemistry, and a past President of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dr. Berg has been a long-time advocate for greater inclusion within the science and technology community. In his first-ever AAAS Colloquium Series presentation, Dr. Berg will discuss his career in science.
