This curriculum presents a comprehensive overview of networking; from fundamentals to advanced applications and services. It is based on the top-down approach to networking that is popular in many colleges and universities.

The course emphasizes concepts and skills required to design networks, while providing opportunities for practical application and hands-on experience by teaching students how to install, operate, and maintain networks.

Students will acquire skill through hands on and virtual labs using the Cisco Packet tracer.
OP-TEC, the National Center for Optics and Photonics Education, is a National Science Foundation (NSF) National Center of Excellence with the stated mission of promoting photonics education and assisting colleges around the country in developing and implementing educational programs that support expansion of this critical new technology.

As part of our efforts to provide faculty development in optics and photonics, OP-TEC will be offering a hybrid, online faculty development course. The course will cover OP-TEC’s Fundamentals of Light and Lasers. Each of the six modules will be taught online over a two-week period with a high level of self-paced instruction combined with an interactive component facilitated by e-mail exchanges and chat room discussions

NanoDays is our nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering and its potential impact on the future. NanoDays events are organized by participants in the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net), and take place at over 200 science museums, research centers, and universities across the country from Maine to Hawaii.

What Can YOU Do?

NanoDays activities often bring university researchers together with science museum educators, creating unique learning experiences. NanoDays engages people of all ages in a miniscule world where materials have special properties and new technologies have spectacular promise.
Many NanoDays celebrations will combine simple hands-on activities for young people with events exploring current research for adults. One popular activity involves visitors working together to build a giant balloon model of a carbon nanotube. (Real carbon nanotubes, which are 1/50,000th of the width of a human hair, have extraordinary strength and unusual electrical properties that make them useful in electronics and materials science.

Other NanoDays activities demonstrate different, unexpected properties of materials at the nanoscale -- sand that won’t get wet even under water, water that won’t spill from a teacup, and colors that depend upon particle size.

Some NanoDays participants host public forums, discussions about the risks and benefits of particular appllications of nanotechnology. Many participating universities host public tours of their laboratories that work with nanoscale science and technology.

The National Science Foundation funded Advanced Technology Education project: "eSyst: A Systems View of Electronics Education" has developed instructional materials to give students the information and practice they’ll need to show competency in each learning objective. In this webinar the eSyst Development Team will demonstrate how to implement the eSyst Electronics System course “Electronics Communication”. This webinar will also explore: • Enhancing student/technician enrollments in today's electronics technology degree programs • How teaching a "systems" approach can revitalize your existing electronics curriculum • How the "systems view" can aid in the retention of your students • Present overviews of the course's new systems resources • Provide current status of the project • Demonstrate where to find the eSyst systems resources on the eSyst website Register at http://www.matecnetworks.org/webreg/esyst.php
