SAE 2015 Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Technologies Symposium addresses critical information on both the technical developments in electronic vehicle technologies as well as the business decisions around technology development and implementation. Additionally, it allows for attendees to meet with those industry experts and technology specialists from the entire supply chain of EV, HEV and EREV to engage in dialogue about the topics of greatest interest.

Here, attendees will learn about technology applications of the manufacturers’ hybrid and electric vehicles, powertrain technologies and components, and about supporting technologies — such as advanced energy storage and charging systems.

Please join Nancy Maron, Program Director of Sustainability and Scholarly Communications at Ithaka S&R, and Edward Almasy, Director and Co-PI of ATE Central, for the first webinar in our spring series: Planning, Goal Setting, and Follow-Through.  As we all know, planning and goal setting in terms of grant funded projects may seem obvious: the terms of the grant spell out the aims of the work and its need, the timings and budget. Still, for multi-year grants or projects that are moving into the post-grant phase, setting achievable goals that address both the short and very long term ambitions of the initiative is harder than it looks.

The AAAS Annual Meeting is interdisciplinary and inclusive. Each year, thousands of leading scientists, engineers, educators, policymakers, and journalists gather together to discuss recent developments in science and technology. The theme of the 2015 Annual Meeting is "Innovations, Information and Imaging." Science and technology are being transformed by new ways to collect and use information. Progress in all fields is increasingly driven by the ability to organize, visualize, and analyze data.

This pre-conference session on Thursday will focus on Community College Innovations.

Two social media experts, Mike Quaissaunee (Brookdale Community College and ICT Center Lead) and Gordon Snyder (Consultant, formerly of Springfield Technical Community College and former ICT Center co-lead) will talk us through using social media strategies for promoting your course or program. Using the ICT Center and other college examples as they go through the strategies, they will cover:

  • Facebook Groups for students in a discipline
  • Twitter for a more global reach
  • LinkedIn for connecting with alumni and the business community

“Small Grants for Institutions New to the ATE Program” is a funding track specifically designed for community colleges that have not had an ATE award within the past 10 years. Like all ATE awards, these projects—up to $200,000 over three years—are required to have an external evaluation that matches the scope of the project. In this webinar, EvaluATE and MentorConnect are teaming up to provide guidance on evaluation to current and prospective recipients of small ATE awards—or anyone tasked with producing a meaningful and useful evaluation for a small-scale project.  We’ll discuss how to design an evaluation that will generate the evidence needed to support claims of project success and set the stage for larger-scale projects in the future.

Speaker: Bart Walhout

The EU has identified Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) as an integral part of its research and innovation programme aimed at excellent science, competitive industry, and better society. RRI seeks to address societal challenges, such as sustainability or security; anticipate risks or social and ethical concerns; and include stakeholders in charting research and innovation. But RRI won’t start from scratch. Practices like Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes; safety and privacy regulations; public dialogue and stakeholder involvement initiatives; gender and sustainability policies; and business and engineering ethics all currently shape research and innovation governance. For RRI to make a difference it must be integrated with these practices. Walhout will discuss the European research project Res-AGorA’s attempt to develop an RRI governance framework. He’ll also examine and compare the work of organizations studying and practicing RI, including the Dutch Risk Analysis & Technology Assessment (RATA) program, the ASU & UCSB Nanotechnology and Society Centers, and the US and Netherlands governments.

In this webinar, CSEC representatives will discuss the various resources they have available that can be leveraged by the National CyberWatch Center members, including faculty professional development workshops and curriculum.
