This workshop at the AAAS Annual Meeting explores opportunities for scientists and engineers to contribute to the policymaking process. It will help identify transferable skills that can be developed and applied to a successful career in science policy and discuss the rewards of broad science engagement. Presenters will delve into opportunities to contribute scientific and technological leadership and innovation to designing and executing solutions that address societal challenges. It underscores the influence of science and innovation on the policymaking process and the impacts of policymaking on the scientific enterprise. The workshop provides strategies and resources to learn more about and engage in policy across career stages.

This training will provide participants with information to increasee success for stuents included within mainstream classrooms. This workshop will sensitize faculty to challenges faced by deaf/hard-of-hearing students in a mainstream environment, explain and examine visual classroom techniques, present effective use of support service personnel (sign language interpreters, notetakers, tutors, captionists), and assist in mastering strategies to meet the goals of Universal Design for Learning in education

The target audience for this workshop includes STEM high school general education teachers, inclusion specialists, local assistive technology specialists, and staff within the Deaf Education program.

This training will provide participants with information to increase success for students included within mainstream classrooms. This workshop will provide information on designing writing assignments that address “writing to learn", provide information on responding to writing errors/skills development within the context of the STEM classroom.
