MNT-EC is holding a Summer Seminar Series every Wednesday, August thru November. Each seminar will feature one of the MNT-EC's very own members who will talk about their summer of 2021 professional development opportunities. Opportunities include writing groups, clean room labs, nano safety and other exciting hands on activities.
This session will focus on the presentation of key data points on STEM education and barriers to STEM success, with a specific focus on underrepresented subgroups in STEM: Black, Latinx, Native American, those with disabilities, foster youth. Additionally, the presenter will use case studies to illuminate and discuss challenges to diversification within the STEM community. Further, the presenter will discuss literature and resources for self-paced learning and development in the area of STEM education.

The Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cybersecurity Community is hosting the fourth annual CAE Virtual Career Fair (VCF), sponsored by the National Cybersecurity Training and Education (NCyTE) Center and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The virtual career fair is unique in that CAE invite students/alumni from 300+ institutions designated as CAEs in Research (CAE-R), Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE), and Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) to participate. Institutions receive the CAE in Cybersecurity designation after meeting the rigorous requirements of the program set forth by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The standards set forth by the NSA/DHS curriculum guidelines also ensure students from CAE institutions receive a quality cybersecurity education that prepares them for a career in the cyber workforce.

CNEU at PSU is a global leader in nanotechnology education and workforce development, striving to better both workforce educators as well as students. The CNEU multi-level mission is to service student education (NMT partnership, Master’s program, ASTM certificate development), to equip educators (NACK Support Center, NPDP workshops, RAIN Network), and to reach under-served populations (UNESCO chair, LSRCE-SCENE, veterans initiatives).

Presenters will discuss NSF ATE’s archiving requirement and recommended Creative Commons licenses, what the ATE Central Archiving Service is, and how to select and submit materials for archiving. Learn what to expect during the archiving process and what happens to your materials behind the scenes. This webinar is designed for those new to archiving with ATE Central, though all are welcome to participate.

Virtual reality simulations are fun, but can also be used to great educational effect when training is combined with the fun. In this seminar, the presenter will discuss modules designed for training students to use nanotechnology equipment and complete processes which they complete before encountering the real equipment in the laboratory. The presenter will show sample clips from some of these modules and discuss the design considerations for building them as well as some initial feedback from the students who have used them in class.

Northwest Vista College will host its fourth summer Nanotechnology workshop for high school students and high school educators in summer 2021. The AIM-TEC grant offers sessions of Atomic Force Microscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), hands-on training at the Kleberg Advanced Microscopy Center at UTSA for students and educators.

In this webcast, Donna Milgram will show you how two schools boosted female (and male) enrollments in Cybersecurity and IT programs after attending a WomenTech Educators Training, and how you can apply these techniques to boost (and retain) similar enrollments in your programs:
- Fayetteville Technical Community College doubled female enrollment in their Cybersecurity program in only 5 months - from 12 to 22 women. Male enrollment also increased from 58 to 101
- Broward College increased female enrollment in their IT & Computer Science Department (including Cybersecurity) - by 77 women in a year’s time. Male enrollment also increased from 751 to 1009

The 2020 Autonomous Capabilities for DoD Summit will provide a “town-hall” style forum to discuss the advanced capabilities that AI-enabled autonomous systems and machine learning provide to the Warfighter in the battlespace, and how these emerging technologies are bolstering current and future DoD efforts to achieve mission impact at scale. The Summit will focus on current initiatives being enacted to leverage the flexibility that autonomous capabilities can provide the Warfighter in the future fight, both to facilitate the DoD’s strategy of developing technologically superior weapons systems to further compete in the Great Power competition, and to outpace adversaries who will also utilize artificial intelligence and other means to their advantage.
Topics to be covered at the 2020 Summit:
- Driving the development of technologically superior weapons systems with autonomous capabilities across the DoD
- Accelerating DoD’s adoption and integration of AI and autonomy to achieve mission impact at scale
