The University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and City College of San Francisco (CCSF) are partnering with the California Lide Sciences (CLS) through its Racial & Social Equity (RSE) work to deliver a third pilot aimed at helping life science organizations build inclusive management practices and workplaces. This training is designed to teach current and future industry professionals how to efficiently and effectively develop, lead, and support interns and employees of diverse backgrounds in an effort to foster inclusive, high-functioning working relationships.

This third pilot is tailored for scientists who currently (or intend to) mentor and/or supervise in either academe or industry and is part of an NSF-funded initiative to build more inclusive lab environments.

The Cybersecurity Skills Journal (CSJ) publishes Special Issues with Articles, Notes and Dialogues that impact cybersecurity practice, improve learning, and advance the state of the cybersecurity workforce’s capability maturity. Notes explore new areas, rather than seeking to confirm or disconfirm results of prior research, as is done in an Article. Conference presentations that explore or document challenges encountered by the cybersecurity workforce --from education and training to operational issues such as recruitment, retention and career advancement-- may be readily adapted to the Note format.

Join this special webinar designed to assist presenters identify how to rapidly adapt their existing presentation related to the cybersecurity workforce from a recent conference or event into a Note for publication in an upcoming Special Issue of the Journal. The focus is helping participants consider how to identify the human factors involved in the technology, tools or operational challenges from their presentation. Participants will also learn how to map their presentation into the structured abstract format used by the Journal, starting with the problem, research question(s), and the contribution that are part of the initial submission to the Journal.

This workshop is intended for community college faculty interested in becoming cybersecurity faculty or faculty wishing to expand their knowledge, earn an industry certification, and strengthen their ability to incorporate new cybersecurity content in their community college curriculum.

Preparing students to successfully enter the information technology and cybersecurity workforce requires that we employ Microsoft's 21st Century Learning Design (CLD) into instructional strategies and practices. This workshop will introduce the following 21st century dimensions/skills and how to use them to enhance student success: collaboration, skilled communication, knowledge construction, self-regulation, real-world problem solving and innovation, and information and communications technology (ICT) for learning. It will also explore how to use them to enhance teaching practices and innovation in the classroom and support student's development of these important skills.

The workshop will be delivered virtually through Zoom and Canvas. Participants will be asked to complete Microsoft learn modules and will complete the review questions and quizzes after each module. Content covered during this course will prepare you for the Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) certification exam.

The Robotics Summit and Expo brings together in one place, at one time, technical and business professionals from across the globe to share knowledge, experience and insights with the goal of driving robotics development and innovation forward.

As drones continue to grow in both popularity and functionality, businesses are rapidly expanding their uses of unmanned aerial vehicles. As we look for new ways to prepare our students for the ever-changing workforce, we should explore adding drones to our curriculum. Among other benefits, unmanned aerial vehicles can provide an engaging opportunity to teach our students real-world skills. With a drone in hand, your students’ STEM learning can truly take flight; all it takes is the right preparations and the right equipment.

Come discover what it takes to bring drones into the classroom as a part of this hands-on workshop. Participants will have the chance to ask questions and learn about essential drone terminology, safety issues, legal concerns, operational requirements, and drone model options. Participants will also walk away a DJI Trello drone of their own to make implementing their newfound drone knowledge even easier.

This webinar from the Community College Presidents Initiative - STEM will cover the organization's Fellows Program and the opportunities that are associated with this program.

Join NCyTE for an informative panel discussion on cybersecurity apprenticeships at the May NCyTE Membership Meeting. Cybersecurity apprenticeships are a highly effective approach to preparing students for employment, as they offer a combination of classroom instruction and real-world work experience. This creates a valuable pathway to building a strong workforce pipeline for both higher education institutions and employers.

This panel of experts from the Coastline Community College, the US Department of Labor, and CompTIA will share their experiences and offer recommendations for improving or starting an apprenticeship program. This is an excellent opportunity for faculty, administrators, and employers who are interested in developing a strong workforce and preparing students for success in the cybersecurity field.

This event was organized by the ATE National Cybersecurity Training & Education (NCyTE) Center.

Semiconductor-based lasers have shown to enjoy a broad range of industrial, medical, and research applications during the last three decades, including data communication, sensing, high-power micromachining, and visualization. Surface emitting lasers (SELs) are semiconductor-based laser diodes that emit light in the form of a coherent optical beam from its top surface. SELs have greater advantage than the edge emitting lasers (EELs) which emit light from the sidewall, or Light Emitting Diode (LEDs) which emit light from the sidewalls and the top surface. These include high-quality high-power circular laser beam with narrow divergence, emission wavelength stability at higher temperatures, and ability to easily assemble, package, and test large 2D arrays, all of which lead to a lower total manufacturing cost. In this presentation, recent advances in Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) along with some of their notable applications are introduced. These include VCSELs that emit light both in the visible and infrared wavelength range and can produce output power ranging from a few milliwatts to tens of watts.
