2024 Diesel Technology Competition

Join an action-packed day of skills competition. Diesel students from CTCs and CTEs are invited to compete for scholarships, prizes, and training aids for their programs.

Here's how it works:

  • CTC/CTE programs interested in participating in the event will complete an online skills test created by Penn College faculty.
  • Students from the top scoring CTCs/CTEs will be invited to a hands-on competition at Penn College.
  • At the on-campus event, students will be judged on their skills as they cycle through 10 industry-sponsored competition stations.

At the end of the event the top three participants will receive Penn College scholarships. Each competition station will also have prizes for first-, second- and third-place winners. Additionally, the winning CTC/CTE will receive a cash prize to purchase training aids for their program.

Grow with Google's Resources for Colleges

The National Applied AI Consortium is announcing a collaboration with Grow with Google to support college faculty to develop AI skills and equip students with in-demand skills, including those in AI, through the recently announced Google Prompting Essentials,  Google AI Essentials, and Google Career Certificates program (now with AI training).

The new Google Prompting Essentials course teaches students how to instruct AI - known as prompting - in 5 easy steps and make AI work for them. The self-paced course is taught by AI experts at Google and can be completed in less than ten hours, no experience necessary.  

Community colleges can access this course at no-cost. On November 14, the Consortium will host a webinar with Grow with Google to:

  • Share how community college faculty can access the content on Coursera
  • Share more about Google’s new course, Prompting Essentials.
  • Discuss how Google's AI courses are used at Miami Dade College
  • Participate in a Q&A session

2024 IEDB Virtual User Workshop

The Immune Epitope Database (IEDB) is an important tool for developing immunotherapies and vaccines. The IEDB is also useful for educators who wish to incorporate undergraduate research in their classrooms. Dr. Sheela Vemu (Waubonsee Community College) has been using the IEDB with her students and as a team leader four of the Antibody Engineering Hackathons. She and her students were able to publish two peer-reviewed articles in the Journal of Advanced Technological Education (J ATE) and one protocol in QUBES. You can learn more about the IEDB in this virtual workshop. 

Topics include:

  • Overview of the IEDB curation process, database structure, and content. The different database query features will be demonstrated and a research example will be provided.
  • Overview of the epitope prediction and analysis tools for both the Next-Generation tools and classic Analysis Resource.
  • Specialized topics will be covered including specific tools, the IEDB application programming interface (API), and other areas of research, such as HIV and cancer.

Virtual Metagenomics Workshop - NCGR

Learn how to use the UNIX command line, and perform metagenomic analyses. This workshop covers analyses of 16s and whole genome shotgun metagenomic sequence data, including community analysis and assembly.

This workshop is targeted towards advanced undergraduate or graduate students, and researchers in biology or related fields.

The workshop will be conducted virtually using Zoom as our conferencing platform. It will also use a variety of other software and tools, and you will log onto NCGR’s Unix analysis server for the command line tools. After the workshop, students can use the NCGR analysis server for their research or education purposes for at least one year. Selection Committee to select participants shortly after the deadline. If any questions arise while reviewing your application packet, you will be contacted directly.
