WEBINAR: Increasing Student Achievement and Completion Rates through Undergraduate Research at Two-Year Colleges Thursday, September 28, 2017 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Eastern Description: Community colleges are successfully using the high impact practice of undergraduate research (UR) to increase student achievement and completion rates. The Community College Undergraduate Research Initiative (CCURI), as a leader in this effort, has engaged more than 40 partner institutions to develop and implement course-based undergraduate research experiences for students. Over the past decade, CCURI has developed an innovative UR model that addresses the unique needs of community colleges, and addresses challenges such as heavy teaching loads, lack of funds, and the need for professional development. In this webinar, faculty and administrators from CCURI partner institutions will discuss proven strategies for the successful development and implementation of UR, and share impactful data on the resulting student success outcomes. Presenters: James Hewlett, Executive Director, CCURI and Director, Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing, Finger Lakes Community College, NY; Ashley Hagler, SPARC3 Director, Director of Undergraduate Research, Gaston College, NC; Darren Mattone, Professor of Biology and CCURI Co-PI, Muskegon Community College, MI; John Selmon, Provost, Muksegon Community College, MI; Heather Woodson, Dean, Gaston College, NC.
