We invite you to join the Congressional House and Senate Cybersecurity Caucuses, SANS | GIAC, and NICE to discuss solutions for building a skilled cybersecurity workforce, as we gear up for Cybersecurity Career Week on October 14-18, 2024. The event will feature top government, corporate, and association speakers, and a special commissioning of the first US Women's Cyber Team will close out this memorable event with introductions and a celebration.
The Virginia Cyber Range will host the annual Cybersecurity Careers Capture the Flag Competition to help celebrate Cybersecurity Career Week! This Jeopardy-style Capture-the-Flag Competition will feature challenges aligned with the categories from the NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced CTF player, this competition is for you! Challenges will be appropriate for a range of participants, including introductory challenges to get new players involved. Prizes will be awarded to the top scorers!

The Space Grand Challenge (SGC) Sandbox Series, a game-based Space and Cybersecurity Skills Development opportunity is a virtual event where anyone can compete as individuals or groups from around the world. Unlike the annual SGC competition, the Sandbox Series is an opportunity to learn and practice using the SGC platform, is not limited to middle and high school players, and is open to everyone. Jump in to develop your cyber/IT skills through a unique use of gamification and esports focused on space themes and cybersecurity.
Open Source INTelligence, also known as OSINT, refers to gathering information from publicly available sources, such as social media, company websites, and news articles. OSINT can collect a great deal of information about a company or person, which cybercriminals can easily misuse. As a CARE Lab OSINT analyst, you will use open sources on the internet to capture an assortment of flags on a target company. You will use search engines, social media, and other open-source tools to capture the flags.

The Security Awareness Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest invites high school and college students to help promote good digital citizenship! Students can win cash prizes, gain experience, and earn recognition by creating PSA videos promoting a specific cybersecurity or privacy topic that educates the general public about using the internet safely, securely, and effectively. To better serve these underrepresented populations, the CARE Lab, Raices Cyber, and Black Girls Hack are partnering to welcome PSAs in Spanish, English, and Hindi.

In this workshop, you will be introduced to different types of CTF competitions and how to approach them, focusing on Jeopardy-style CTFs. You will also be introduced to tools designed to solve different challenges. You might even get some hints related to the Career Week CTF! The Maryland Department of Commerce, NICE, NCCoE, and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation are excited to support Cybersecurity Career Week with a special event focused on opportunities to enter the cybersecurity workforce. Learn about Maryland industry and government workforce development programs designed to recruit and retain a skilled and diverse workforce. Cybersecurity Career Week is a campaign led by NIST to promote the discovery of cybersecurity careers and share resources that increase understanding of multiple learning pathways and credentials that lead to careers that are identified in the Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework). The celebration is held annually the third week in October. During this week, academia, industry, non-profit organizations, and government work to build awareness about the wide range of cybersecurity job opportunities, educate interested individuals on how to develop capabilities to qualify for cybersecurity roles, and showcase how building an international cybersecurity workforce enhances each nation’s security and promotes economic prosperity.

There are multiple learning pathways and credentials that lead to a career in cybersecurity. During Cybersecurity Career Week (October 14-19, 2024), we will feature individuals who are STARs – Skilled Through Alternative Routes. The STARs program, operated by Opportunity@Work, is establishing the conditions for employers to hire people based on their skills.
