The National Cybersecurity Student Association is a one-stop-shop to enhance the educational and professional development of cybersecurity students through activities, networking and collaboration. This group supports the cybersecurity educational programs of academic institutions, inspires career awareness and encourages creative efforts to increase the number of graduates in the field.

In this webinar, representatives from the National Cybersecurity Student Association will discuss the overarching goals of the Association and how to create a Chapter at your school.

The Statewide Tour of Manufacturing offers schools families and the general public a chance to see how modern manufacturing is high-tech and innovative.

National experts will explore the cybersecurity issues of the day, including the use of drones and internet-connected cars, at a free three-day kickoff for the 2016 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October. Corrinne Sande, Director of CyberWatch West, will speak on cybersecurity in higher education at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue, Wash.

The annual Close It Summit, organized by the nonprofit Innovate+Educate, brings together educators, trainers, and employers to work together on issues of workforce development. The focus of this year’s summit will be on the shift to competencies and what is happening in competency-based education, training, and hiring. Highlights include: employment technologies shifting the space, competency-based assessments shifting the space, employers shifting their hiring practices, and higher education shifting its strategies to competencies.

Take home brand-new insights on the toughest topics in the Connected Vehicle space. Fellow thought leaders will include: Automakers, Tier 1 and 2 Companies, Hardware, Software, Services and Communications Companies, Insurers, and State and Federal Government Officials.

Preconference workshops (Wednesday, October 5) will address topics such as Career Pathways Leadership Certification, WIOA Guidance and Guidelines, Employer-Education Partnerships, and Adult Career Pathways.

The conference will focus on Career Pathways implementation at the state and local levels. The conference’s 1200+ attendees will consist of a broad cross-section of stakeholders comprising secondary and postsecondary educators, workforce development professionals, and employers.

During the 2016 Southern Automotive Conference, senior executives from OEMs from across the southeast will showcase their plants’ latest developments and key elected officials from southern states will discuss efforts to increase the region’s competitive advantage. OEMs and suppliers will talk about supplier best practices to ensure that, as an industry, we continue to meet the growing challenges of the global market.

At the West Coast Summit, the International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals (ICMCP) will bring together technology and security leaders in Silicon Valley. It will provide another opportunity to raise the dialogue on the necessary strategic, tactical, and operational imperatives needed to attract and develop minority cybersecurity practitioners. During the one-day summit, security thought leaders will hold a series of expert panel and audience-driven discussions, and examine ways to further the inclusion of underrepresented minorities in cybersecurity.

This workshop is designed to provide teachers with strategies for including a variety of writing activities in their classes.  Workshop participants learn how to add writing practice to their STEM courses and all courses that will help students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to Improve their writing and at the same time enhance their learning in the discipline.

This workshop provides math teachers with examples of best practices for math instruction when working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. With a emphasis on experiential learning, workshop participants learn about effective instructional approaches including cooperative learning, online tutorials, and new strategies for engaging Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in learning math.

Dr. Barry Gump will be the presenter and will lead participants through four chemistry sessions, all related to wine.

With this discussion and tour, we are concerned with the underlying patterns of ordinary light. This is the light by which we do our work and enjoy the beauties of nature and art. We take it for granted, but Newton and Huygens inquire about it. What is its constitution? What laws does it obey? How are white light and colored light related? Why are there optical illusions? How do eyeglasses improve vision? Natalia Chekhovskaya, an Adjunct Professor of Physics at Indian River State College, will help us discover the answers to these questions as she leads us through a tour of the LASER-TEC Center at Indian River State College.

The purpose of the Expo is to create awareness about exciting career options among students and educators while addressing workforce needs in the region. Existing employers in the region continue to have unfilled job openings due to a shortage of skilled workers. In addition, employers face shortages over the next few years due to the retirement of up to 50% of their workforce. The Expo will be a fun, educational, hands-on opportunity for students to become familiar with a broad overview of high demand, high wage career opportunities available in the area.

The Business Industry Leadership Team (BILT) was developed by the National Convergence Technology center in 2004 created a lock-step cooperation with regional and national business to ensure employment for graduates. This BILT process has been recognized as a best practice by many entities, and has been shared with colleges nation wide. This session will discuss adaptations of the BILT concept from the National CTC.
