Fundamentals of Photonics Workshop

This 2-day Fundamentals of Photonics workshop includes an explanation of the nature and properties of light and lasers and optical components. Laser theory and operation along with descriptions of typical laser application examples will be explored. An overview of laser safety will be emphasized. Hands-on laser and optics laboratory activities will be included in this workshop. Workshop participants will have a better understanding of photonics technology and the use of photonics in everyday life. This workshop is intended for educators or industry professionals. A stipend will be provided to cover travel expenses and workshop registration is free. One Great Prairie Area Education Agency re-certification credit is available for $35. Limited to 20 participants.

NPDP Hands-On-Site Workshop

The Introductions to Nanotechnology and Nanotechnology Curriculum Materials 1 and 2 workshops that were held this spring gave participant educators the opportunity to remotely learn about nanotechnology workforce education from the NPDP Team using a live-stream technology approach. The NPDP Team is now opening up applications to the next phase of training, hands-on face to face laboratory experiences entitled NPDP Hands-On-Site Workshops. The purpose of these workshops is to enable educators who attend these experiences to enhance their understanding of this technology and further understand the laboratory experiences that NPDP partners are using within their nanotechnology workforce programs, leading to implementation of nanotechnology classroom experiences, nanotechnology courses or perhaps nanotechnology workforce programs at their home institutions.

These materials and the workshop were developed in response to a national need for the cybersecurity technician workforce to be more knowledgeable and involved in the compliance process. The workshops will consist of hands-on labs, auditing activities and group projects.

This workshop is designed for college faculty that teach cybersecurity and information assurance programs who recognize that community college cybersecurity program graduates must be better prepared for the Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) certification exam. Business leaders from across the nation have expressed this need repeatedly. Students performing audits for the PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry - Data Security Standard) compliance are required to have this certificate.

Basic Electricity for IoT

This class provides a 16-hour overview of the basics of electricity and electronics for programs offering IoT related classes. The class includes an overview of ohms law, a series in parallel circuits and the use of electrical meters and instruments.
