Members of NSF’s Eddie Bernice Johnson INCLUDES National Network are cordially invited to the 2023 Convening: Sustaining Equity-Driven Systems Change. Join in-person (for the first time since 2019!) at the Westin City Center, Washington, D.C., and support the movement to broaden participation in STEM education and careers.

Thursday, August 3rd and Friday, August 4th. INCLUDES-funded Alliances are invited to a pre-Convening meeting on Wednesday, August 2nd.

Through peer learning sessions, engaging plenaries and panel discussions, and interactive workshops, members of the INCLUDES National Network will have opportunities to share with and learn from their peers, from NSF and other federal agency representatives, from the INCLUDES Coordination Hub, and from the students and participants most directly affected by our work. Attendees will build and deepen relationships; identify, elevate, and strengthen commonalities and connections across broadening participation efforts; and learn about future actions we can take together to sustain our work.

Registration is $100 per participant, with fees waived for students. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register early and make your hotel reservation as soon as possible.

Nanotechnology Hands-On-Site Workshop

This workshop presents an overview of the world of nanotechology. Participants will learn about the growing applications of nanotechnology in many areas and the basics of nanofabrication processes. The three-day workshop is broken down into daily lectures by CNEU staff and lab sessions in nanofabrication in the CNEU teaching cleanroom.

Target audience: Post Secondary and Secondary Science and Technology teachers with an desire to create additional learning opportunities for their students.

Possible topics: Cleanroom safety, Vacuum, Evaporation, Metrology, Lithography, SEM, AFM, Etching, CVD, and ideas on how to implement these into your lessons, courses, and programs.

You will be notified by email whether your application has been approved one week after the workshop application deadline date. Additional workshop details, hotel information, and financial support details will be included in the approval confirmation. US citizens will be eligible for a travel stipend and registration fee waiver.

Modern GIS Tools to Explore Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

In this workshop, participants will learn how to use Modern GIS tools and applications to explore diversity, equity, and inclusion topics. All tools will be taught using DEI examples and all activities will be DEI focused. Participants will examine inequalities, environmental justice, and selected UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) such as water and health. Participants will also hear from experts in the DEI space through guest presentations. All participants will propose a geospatial DEI project to complete during and after the workshop. A resource repository of DEI geospatial data, maps, and applications will be shared with attendees so that they can continue to develop DEI course content and applications after the workshop.

Antibody Engineering Hackathon August 2023

The 3rd Hackathon for Developing CURES in Antibody Engineering will take place August 7-10th, 2023. They will be accepting applications until June 9th, 2023. This event is free but you are expected to make a time commitment of about 8 hours a day and attend an orientation session before the event. 

As a Hackathon participant, you will:

  • work in a team to research and develop antibody-related student research projects,
  • learn about antibodies and how they can be engineered
  • Learn about the use of antibodies in diagnostics, research, and therapeutics,
  • develop new skills in immunology-related bioinformatics programs and databases,
  • learn about new laboratory techniques for working with antibodies, and
  • become part of an exciting, fun, and collaborative community.

Faculty, students, and industry members with varying levels of experience in working with antibodies are encouraged to apply.  Participants will be selected based on experience and motivation to attend. Applicants from community colleges will receive the highest priority. Participants must be US-based. The event is virtual.

This 5-day camp is being hosted at the University of Washington (UW) and will focus on Global Ocean Biogeochemical (GO-BGC) float technology. MATE FLOATS! - Marine Technology Camp is taught by UW School of Oceanography Float Engineer Rick Rupan with assistance from UW undergraduate students. During this camp, students will have the opportunity to sail on board the UW R/V Rachel Carson. A detailed camp schedule with activities and learning objectives will be provided later this spring.

Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification 2.0 Workshop

Register now for a free, two-day CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) 2.0 workshop. Spaces are limited.

NCyTE is offering a free workshop that will cover the CMMC 2.0 and the new Department of Defense (DoD) requirements which include: moving from a five-level compliance model to a three-level model, shifting most auditing requirements to the DoD, and revising the program to mirror NIST 800-171 more closely.

  • Small business IT or cybersecurity personnel 

The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. John Sands who has over 30 years of experience in education and workforce research in data communications, manufacturing technologies, information technology, information security management and cybersecurity. He has led previous CMMC workshops and is well versed in CMMC 2.0.

All attendees will receive an Instructor Guidebook, Student Guidebook, training resources, and a Canvas course package. The workshop is limited to 25 attendees and spots are filling up quickly.

MNT-EC Journal Writing Workshop 2023

Join organizers for an intensive 3-day workshop to prepare community college faculty to submit papers to peer-reviewed journals. This online workshop is led by Peter Kazarinoff, MNT-EC co-PI and faculty at Portland Community College. Organizers will cover how peer-reviewed journals work, as well as how to write, submit, review, edit and publish in peer-reviewed journals to advance in your career. How to Engage with Legislators in Advancing ATE & STEM

One of the most effective ways community colleges can help ensure the future success and growth of the ATE program, and STEM at community colleges generally, is to build relationships with their federal legislators. This virtual session will cover the nuts and bolts of how to build and maintain those relationships, both in Washington, D.C. and at home. This virtual session will cover topics including how to set meetings, effective meeting strategies, the importance of consistent communication, and more. The ATE Conference is offering pre-conference meetings and sessions all day on Wednesday, October 25. Conference attendees also have the opportunity to use some of this time or time before or after the ATE Conference to set meetings with legislative offices on Capitol Hill.
