The American Association of Community Colleges with the support of the National Science Foundation will hold the 21st National ATE Principal Investigators Conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. The conference will bring together approximately 850 people to focus on the critical issues related to advanced technological education. Key people working on ATE projects across the country participate in the conference. Conference attendees represent community colleges, business and industry, secondary school systems, four-year colleges, and research and development centers covering projects in a wide variety of areas such as: information technology, engineering technology, micro- and nanotechnologies, chemical technology, biotechnology, and others.

This workshop provides an introduction to some of the fundamental concepts and concerns of spatial analysis and modeling in a geographic information system. Topics will include: basics of vector and raster data analysis, proximity and overlay principles, distance modeling, terrain analysis, categorical and continuous classification, site suitability modeling, statistical modeling, and building geoprocess models using ArcGIS ModelBuilder. Training will be based on the ArcGIS 10 suite of software. Participants should have taken the Introduction to GIS course or have equivalent training or experience. Workshop Format: Approximately 50% lecture, 50% hands on training via guided lab exercises completed individually on computers. OBJECTIVES By attending the course, participants will: 1) Develop a basic understanding of the analysis and modeling of geographic information. 2) Understand the application of GIS operations to vector and raster data including: proximity and overlay operations, terrain analysis, and distance modeling. 3) Develop basic skills in applying appropriate GIS methods for problem solving in spatial analysis and modeling (site suitability and statistical). 4) Understand how to build geoprocessing models for analysis using ArcGIS ModelBuilder.

A workshop designed to provide STEM faculty with strategies for including a variety of writing activities in their courses. and using a Universal Design approach that is good for all students.

Workshop participants learn how to add writing practice to their STEM courses that will help students improve their writing and at the same time enhance their learning in the discipline. Topics include:

• Why writing matters - the theoretical underpinnings
• The role of informal and low-stakes writing both in and out of class
• Building a formal writing product using scaffolding techniques
• Developing meaningful rubrics for evaluating writing products
• Providing students with feedback on their writing in the context of a STEM classroom
• Writing-related resources on the DeafTEC website

Each workshop participant will leave with a plan for developing a writing assignment that provides students with writing practice and the tools to provide constructive feedback.

This workshop covers a variety of material related to crystallography and its importance in microtechnology. The National Educator's Workshop (NEW) builds upon 28 years of annual workshops aimed at promoting science, engineering, and technology education. Each year the workshop has enhanced the quantity of useful information provided to the participants while maintaining quality and relevancy.

2014 CONFERENCE

The objective of this conference is to bring together scientific experts from academia, industry, and government agencies from around the world to present and discuss current research findings on the subject of nanotechnology and sustainability. The SNO Conference emphasizes not only the environmental aspects of sustainability but also the societal and economic sustainability issues.

The conference program will address the critical aspects of sustainable nanotechnology such as life cycle assessment, green synthesis, green energy, industrial partnerships, environmental and biological fate, and the overall sustainability of engineered nanomaterials. In principle, this involves the fundamental/applied research on the chemistry of producing new green nanomaterials; eco-manufacturing processing of nanomaterials and products, using nanotechnology to benefit society, and examining possible harmful effects of nanotechnology.

The conference will also foster new collaborations between academic and industrial participants. This community of users, researchers and developers of engineered nanomaterials will provide a long-term, scientific assessment of where the science is for sustainable nano, where it should be heading, and what steps academics, government agencies and others can take now to reach targeted goals. In addition, the conference will serve as the platform to initiate the formation of the Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization (SNO), a non-profit, international professional society dedicated to advancing sustainable nanotechnology through education, research, and promotion of responsible development of nanotechnology. Grape Camp is a two-day event filled with educational sessions and vendor demonstrations focused on Texas grape growers. Day One is geared toward the new grape grower or individuals wanting to start growing grapes. Topics center around irrigation, soil, disease control, grape varietals, vineyard management. With the advance of web mapping services and Web technology, creating and publishing high-performing, modern-looking Web maps has become easier and rich with options. This workshop teaches the basics of how to build attractive, sophisticated internet mapping applications using the lightweight, browser based ArcGIS Server JavaScript API. Topics include designing and publishing web mapping services using ArcGIS Server; consuming ArcGIS map services using the ArcGIS Server REST API and Dojo Javascript library; integrating functionality (queries, geoprocessing, etc.) for more interactive applications; and tools and techniques for rapid application development. This Workshop is geared toward GIS analysts and others who want to create rich internet mapping applications to publish GIS content throughout an organization or to the public via the Internet. Attendees do not need to be highly experienced programmers but a basic understanding of HTML and familiarity with JavaScript are recommended. Chaplin Eminent Scholar’s Chair in Beverage Management at Florida International University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. This workshop presents an overview of nanotechnology. Participants will learn about the applications of nanotechnology in areas including biotechnology, MEMS, optoelectronics, chemical processing, solar cells, and information technologies. The basics of nanofabrication processes and tools will be covered and emphasized through processing labs held in the CNEU Teaching Cleanroom. This three-day workshop is broken down into daily lectures by Penn State researchers and engineering staff and into lab sessions in nanofabrication.
