The conference, over a two day period, will feature individual speakers, plenary sessions, and a series of workshops.  The sessions will run along three tracks of interest:  Educators, Industry, and Administrators.  This will allow attendees to select the sessions that interest them.

This online course provides an intermediate-level focus on environmental social marketing strategies. Students will focus in detail on how to plan and implement a social marketing strategy, using 3-5 topics within social marketing of your choosing. 

This course is an intermediate complementary course to the DEL online course “Environmental Communications for Behavior Change”, which provides a practical overview of a social marketing campaign.  We encourage students to take both classes; they are fundamentally different, yet complementary.

This workshop will benefit winemakers, cellar workers, winery staff, and wine enthusiasts who seek a deeper understanding of these topics and their impact on a winery’s success. In addition, workshop attendees will be guided through sensory test methods to access perceived differences and preferences in wine.

Topics include: Welcome and Introduction to Tasting, White Sensory Standards, Red Sensory Standards, and Evaluating Palate Attributes: Alcohol, Acid, and Tannin Wine Defects, Descriptive Wine Analysis of White Wines, Descriptive Analysis of Red Wines, Laboratory Investigating, Wine Competition Methodology and Professional Wine Rating Systems. A certificate will be awarded after the completion of this workshop.

In 2006 the Chinese government launched its National Medium- and Long-Term Plan for the Development of Science and Technology 2006-2020, making “indigenous innovation” the top developmental priority. The broad goal of the MLP is to transform China into a technology-focused economy by 2020 and a global leader in R&D, science, and product innovation by 2050.  Can such state-driven efforts succeed? At first glance, the results of China’s efforts are impressive. Yet China’s investment in research and development has yet to pay off in product innovation. Moreover, President Xi’s “Chinese dream,” which includes a major anti-corruption campaign along with reigning in “Western thinking” in China’s universities, may have a deleterious effect on China’s high-tech ambitions. This presentation will explore these ambitions in light of recent developments in China.

Dr. Barry Gump is the first holder of the Harvey R. Chaplin Eminent Scholar’s Chair in Beverage Management at Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. In this position he is developing new graduate and undergraduate beverage classes to expand the offerings of the Beverage Management curriculum. Dr. Gump is Emeritus Professor of Chemistry and Emeritus Adjunct Professor of Enology at California State University, Fresno. He has had a long association (over thirty years) with the wine industry, conducting research in analytical methodology applied to grapes, juices, and wines.

We have arrived upon this new frontier, and the challenges facing higher education are unparalleled and will continue. The need for creative and innovative approaches to addressing these challenges is more critical today than ever before. This new reality provides greater opportunity and responsibility for higher education planners to take charge and define the future. The keynote speaker is, Waldo Jaquith, who is the director of U.S. Open Data, a non-profit organization building the capacity of open data and supporting government in that mission. In 2011, in acknowledgement of his open data work, Jaquith was named a 'Champion of Change' by the White House and, in 2012, an 'OpenGov Champion' by the Sunlight Foundation. He went on to work in open data with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Jaquith and his family live in the Southwest Mountains, just outside of Charlottesville.

The annual event covers a wide range of career and technology education topics and is a professional development opportunity for partner school counselors, principals, instructors and staff.

The key finding from an evaluation was that while female mathematics students improved their final marks in response to attending a greater number of sessions per semester, male students achieved lower final marks on average.  Although several studies have shown that in PASS-like programs gender tends to not be a significant factor relating to achievement, our results suggest otherwise.  We presented our work and speculated on the reasons for this observation at the Australasian Conference for PASS and Peer-Learning in Melbourne, Australia in September 2015, and sought suggestions on how programs like PASS could address this gender-specific difference in achievement.  This Webinar will present our research and discuss approaches to remediate gender-associated differences in achievement.
