The Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training Project (iGETT) presents a series of Learning Units (LU) designed to incorporate federal land remote sensing data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) instruction. The Evaluating Wildlife Habitat LU, created by Douglas Crebs of Stone Child College, uses data sets, remote sensing, and Geographic Information Systems to effectively relocate Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep and their habitats.

The iGETT Learning Units are designed for use both as "skills-based case studies and building blocks for new courses." All LUs are intended for students with basic understanding of GIS. Each LU includes three core documents, an instructor's guide, a student guide, and a curriculum and support document, as well as the remote sensing data needed to complete the unit. Over the course of this eight-week unit, students will build a map, analyze data, and create a presentation that encompasses what they've learned.

Upon completion of this lesson, students should be able to locate and download remotely sensed images appropriate for the task, use ENVI software to renter remotely sensed images in a useable form, import processed image data into a GIS, produce maps and charts to communicate project results, and present a report of the project using PowerPoint.
