Employability Skills: The Toothpick Factory

This module from the Florida Advanced Technological Education (FLATE) Center will help students understand and develop their own set of personal employability skills, such as communication and teamwork. This activity aims to help students understand the importance of soft skills in a manufacturing setting, by working on production teams in a toothpick factory role play. The lesson plan includes student competencies and objectives, a list of materials needed, a step-by-step outline of the activity, and an evaluation section. A sample sheet is provided with questions to help facilitate discussion, as well as a student handout. The lesson should require one class period to complete.
