Fracture-resistant Ceramics (the Corelle plate)
This lesson plan demonstrates the toughness of Corelle material and relates the behavior of Corelle plates to the material's design and structure. The students will examine a Corelle plate and ask the questions: Why don't Corelle plates break and how are they manufactured? The module would be suitable for grades 4 through college, with each grade level gaining different educational benefits. Student, course and instructor evaluation questions are included.
