Plastic Stretch
This four-page instructor guide from Edmonds Community College provides a laboratory activity demonstrating plastic deformation to students. Students observe plastic deformation in polyethylene, apply physical stress to a plastic sheet, and observe the "necking" effect this stress causes. This activity can be completed in one class period, and can be adjusted for different instructional levels. The instructor guide includes the following sections: Objectives, MatEd Core Competencies Addressed, Equipment and Supplies Needed, Instructor Background and Notes, Experimental Process, and Evaluation.
