Description:
The materials for this Digital Fundamentals course are provided by Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center (MATEC). This course provides introductory information for students pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in computer programming or information technology. Topics covered include Basic Digital Concepts, Introduction to Electricity, Data Transmission Principles, Concepts of Data Conversion, Basic Logic Elements, and more. 

Contents:
Course materials include a Digital Fundamentals: Course Materials PDF, a PowerPoint presentation, lab activity guides, and related files. 

The 8-page Digital Fundamentals PDF describes the traditional view and new systems view of digital courses and provides a detailed list of the materials included in this course.

A 24-page instructor lab guide is included. The purpose of this lab is to "introduce the student to Xilinx software, Spartan 3E FPGA board, how to program in VHDL and create the hardware connections between the development board and your PC." The guide features Systems Rationale, System Concepts, Learning Outcomes, Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills, Learning Objectives, and more. 

A Serial Digital Interfaces PowerPoint presentation summarizes the most widely used serial digital interfaces used in computers and all other types of electronic equipment. This presentation is intended to use in a digital, microcomputer and/or communications course. 

Additional course materials are divided into the following two sections: FPGA Beer Module and Wave Audio Lab. The FPGA Beer folder includes an instructor guide for the Operations of Pasteurization Process Control lab project and related sound files. The purpose of this lab is to "learn the use of Spartan 3E FPGA development board from Xilinx and how to create the hardware connections between the development board and your PC." The instructor guide features Systems Rationale, System Concepts, Learning Outcomes, Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills, Learning Objectives, and more. 

The Wave Audio Lab folder includes a student guide for the Wave Audio Play lab. This lab "introduces the student to data contained in computer files and hardware that can make use of the data contained in those files.  This knowledge helps the student have a better understanding of how the digital world of computers is a world of 1s and 0s and hardware." The student guide features Systems Rationale, System Concepts, Student Learning Outcomes, Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills, Learning Objectives, and more. 

For orientation purposes Digital Fundamentals.pdf is included as a separate attachment and provides a detailed description of the course.
