Introduction to Alternative and Renewable Energy: Energy Storage Challenges
These presentation slides is intended for use in a college-level introductory course in alternative and renewable energy. This unit covers energy storage challenges. Slides include details on grid scale energy storage technologies such as ultracapacitors, flywheels, SMES-Superconducting Magnetic Energy, batteries, compressed air energy storage, and pumped hydro. Each technology is described in depth and useful graphics are included to illustrate the material. Battery storage is covered in depth with information about lead acid batteries, Sodium β-alumina batteries, zinc bromine (Zn-Br) flow batteries, vanadium redox, and metal air batteries. This presentation may be downloaded in PDF file format.
