21st Century Skills in STEM Workforce Training Assessments
This presentation by Louise Yarnall of SRI International was given to the Workshop on Assessment of 21st Century Skills, held in January 2011. In it, Yarnall discusses STEM workforce growth areas, how the technicians that will fill these jobs are taught, skills that employers seek, and a new vision for teaching STEM technicians that emphasizes technical skills, social skills, and social-technical skills. Yarnall also presents one model to achieve this new vision: Scenario-Based Learning (SBL), including its role and importance, key elements, and assessment design challenges and opportunities.
