The National Center for Next Generation Manufacturing (NCNGM) addresses the need for highly skilled workers in the manufacturing workplace by building programs that provide resources to educators and students interested in learning new technologies in manufacturing. The NCNGM is directed by the Connecticut College of Technology (CCOT), a virtual organization representing technology curriculum geared toward engineering and technical training offered at Connecticut's 12 community colleges. This video profiles A'arika's experience as a mechanical engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Born without visual depth perception, A'arika underwent five eye surgeries. Despite her circumstances, she was determined to become an astronaut and eventually became a mechanical engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand, an aerospace engineering company. She discusses her professional interests in physics and creative solutions to manufacturing design, and women in engineering.
