Description: Tacoma Community College offers a Logistics course program, funded in part by the National Science Foundation, to provide students with the professional skills necessary to succeed in warehouse, inventory, and supply chain management. Logistics 110, “International Logistics,” seeks to introduce students to “how organizations enter into and maintain a global presence” through a combination of in-person and online hands-on discussions, lectures, readings, and projects. The course broadly orients students to the various techniques and concepts associated with international trade strategies and the factors that may determine success in a global marketplace. Specifically, this course will clarify “methods to use international logistics as a competitive advantage.”

Course Information: Logistics 110 “International Logistics” is a twelve-week lecture based course at Tacoma Community College offered in the Logistics curriculum. The topics vary from week to week, and students are expected to complete required readings, assignments, and learn through independent research and study. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to discuss some of the similarities and differences between domestic and international shipments, understand rationale for entering a global marketplace, list marketplace strategies for entering international markets, understand the risks and preventative measures for international trade logistics, discuss exporting organizations, describe most widely used forms of documentation, understand INCOTERMS, discuss “foreign trade zones,” understand industry terminology, and finally use the internet to research and learn.

For orientation purposes, readers should begin with the document titled “LOG 110 instructor manual.” This detailed letter to instructors contains a course overview and descriptions for each of the modules by week. A list of web and print resources, called "Resources" was compiled for all the Logistics courses and is included in the Administrative section for reference.
