This two-part exercise, created by Jeannie Allen and offered by the Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training Project (iGETT), introduces students to the process of locating and downloaded Landsat data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) GloVIS website (part one), and how to utilize the Landsat data to create images (part two). The document provides students with step-by-step directions for both exercise parts.

This is a basic-level lesson and does not assume prior student knowledge of ArcGIS software, although instructors using this material with beginners will need to provide context about remote sensing and an introduction to the software and its purpose. The lesson does require that students have previous experience in and understanding of downloading data from the web.
