This lecture, presented by John Chamberlain, covers the basics of algebra in relation to phonetics education. In 29 minutes, Chamberlain covers such topics as formulas (to solve for the area of an object, to solve financial equations, and everything in between) and order of operations. Once the basics are covered, Chamberlain presents numerous examples in which these techniques can be applied, such as isolating a variable. Upon watching the lecture, students should be able to simplify an expression (using order of operations), rearrange formulas so that one variable is isolate, and substitute into formulas and solve for unknown quantities.
