Mathematics for Photonics Education: Graphing in Rectangular Coordinates

This lecture, presented by John Chamberlain, covers the basics of graphing in rectangular coordinates as the concept relates to photonics education. In 35 minutes, Chamberlain covers the basics of the Cartesian coordinate system, trends with many points, and steps for drawing graphs. Once the basics are covered, Chamberlain provides numerous examples of these concepts in action, including charting temperatures, and graphing corn yields and stress analysis. Upon completion of the lecture, students should be able to identify ordered pairs in the Cartesian coordinate system, read and interpret line graphs in real-world scenarios, and draw graphs from a given table of data.
