Comprehension Instructional Sequence Model Lesson Plans

FLATE, the Florida Advanced Technological Education Center for Manufacturing, has developed a curriculum to prepare students for careers in manufacturing. These Comprehension Instructional Sequence Model (CIS) Lesson Plans are intended to “build learners’ background knowledge in STEM areas, expand their vocabularies, and to promote reading and writing success.” Each model lesson includes materials based around reading, research, industry tours, and reflection through discussion and essay writing.

Lesson Contents:

The alternative energy curriculum is composed of 8 modules, each of which include a teacher’s lesson plan, detailed presentation slides, a 5 page student worksheet, a company profile worksheet, and a short article for students. The modules are as follows:

  5. Product Design
  6. Quality Measures: Metrology
  7. Subtractive Machining
  8. Fabrication: Welding
