Environmental Literacy and Inquiry (ELI), sponsored by the Lehigh Environmental initiative, is an inquiry-based middle school curriculum that uses geospatial information technologies including GIS and Google Earth to investigate environmental issues. The Web site includes curriculum units Energy, Tectonics, Climate Change, and Land Use Change. the unit Energy focuses on the world's energy resources. The unit on Tectonics "is a series of geospatial investigations designed to enhance the middle school Earth science curriculum." The unit on Climate Change introduces "essential climate literacy principles with an emphasis on weather and climate, Earth system energy balance, greenhouse gases, paleoclimatology, and how human activities influence climate change." Land Use Change focuses on "how human activities influence environmental changes related to land use."
