Program Description:

This program, created by professionals at Milwaukee Area Technical College, prepares students to efficiently and effectively manage facilities. Emphasis is placed on cost-effective energy options, direct digital controls, energy management systems, sustainable operations management, maintenance management, commissioning, and project management. Each link leads to an instructor guide which includes sample learning outcomes, exit skills, course materials, assessments, and an overall description for each course.

Instructor Guide Description:

This Instructor Guide helps educators at the college-level design and plan an eight-week, accelerated course which "presents ideas and practices that set the groundwork for a more detailed study of green building practices for building projects ranging from new construction to operations and maintenance." The Guide contains possible tests, homework assignments, and activities to encourage class participation, which help student gain an understanding of "sustainable building concepts, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system, and levels of accreditation." A sample PowerPoint presentation on the LEED Rating System is also included. Used in conjunction with other classroom-ready materials, the Instructor Guide can assist educators in developing a course that teaches students to understand "the benefits of sustainable buildings, the LEED rating system, and what it means to be a Green Associate."
