The Sustainable Facilities Operation Associate Degree program, created by professionals at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), is designed to help prepare students to manage facility operations in roles such as energy manager, facilities manager, maintenance supervisor, and many more. Instructor Guide Description:
SUSTN 105: The LEED Rating System and Sustainable Building Core Concepts is one of eight classes in the Sustainable Facilities Operations Program. This 38-page instructor guide outlines this accelerated course that "presents ideas and practices that set the groundwork for a more detailed study of green building practices for building projects ranging from new construction to operations and maintenance." The guide contains possible tests, homework assignments, and activities to encourage class participation, which help student gain an understanding of "sustainable building concepts, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system, and levels of accreditation." A sample PowerPoint presentation on the LEED Rating System is also included. The instructor guide can assist educators in developing a course that teaches students to understand "the benefits of sustainable buildings, the LEED rating system, and what it means to be a Green Associate."
