Course Description:

Design with Composite Materials is provided by Kettering University and the Center for Advanced Automotive Technology (CAAT) and is an introductory course focusing on students learning properties, manufacturing processes, and design guidelines of fiber-reinforced composite materials. The basics of composite properties, mechanics, and manufacturing processes are introduced. Design guidelines and drafting notations will be emphasized for composite components with various fiber-reinforcements such as unidirectional fibers, random short fibers, and laminate stacking sequences. The lecture handouts, together with homework assignments, and course projects are designed to train the targeted students in community colleges with CAD experience, for associate degrees and/or certificate programs. Included materials in the Design with Composite Materials course are a syllabus, course projects, homework, and lectures. Information is provided for obtaining homework answers and instructor lecture notes for topics three and four.

Course Content:

The 5-page syllabus includes information about the course, prerequisites, reference books, learning outcomes, course topics and roadmap, and grading and assessment.

Seven PowerPoint lectures, five homework assignments, and two course projects are included.
