This 17-page assessment toolkit was created by SRI International to help educators broaden learning objectives to shift from content topics to student competencies. SRI seeks assessment as a path for addressing challenges in implementing the instructional technique problem-based learning (PBL). "Educators find PBL challenging to implement because it requires tradeoffs around classroom activities and content coverage and different approaches to faculty preparation and student engagement."

The toolkit includes a table of contents and the following sections: Assessment Menu Reflection Activity, Assessment Reflection Project Task Interview, Design Pattern Template, Extended Interview Protocol, PADI Design Layers and Design Pattern Attributes, Design Pattern Attributes and their Definitions, and Scenario-Based Task Critique and Revision Reflection Activity.
