Finding Plant Genes in Public Databases
This 8-page activity is provided by Agrowknowledge and covers identifying plant phenotypes and finding plant genes in public databases. Upon completion of the exercise students wil be able to "Use Entrez to find a gene sequence associated with a specific plant phenotype, provide evidence to support the hypothesis that the gene found confers that phenotype, and use the nucleotide or protein sequence identified above to find similar genes by performing a BLAST search." This activity includes the following sections: Objectives, Notes to the instructor, Part I. Identifying interesting traits, Part II. Finding genes with Entrez, and Student Version. The Student Version includes the following subsections: Overview, Getting a sequence, Brainstorming about plants, and Searching databases with Entrez.
